Upcoming Major Sporting Events of 2017/2018
Sports enthusiasts and participants have plenty to look forward to for the rest of 2017 and well into 2018 as many world class events are scheduled to be played. Here are just some of the events worthy of being marked on calendars:

Aug 4-13 International Association of Athletics Federations World Championships will be held at Olympic Stadium, London UK.
Aug 7-13 US PGA Golf will be played at Quail Hollow Club, Charlotte, North Carolina.
Aug 9-26 Women's Rugby World Cup is to be held in Ireland this year. Though this is a fairly new sport having only started in 1991 it is gathering a good fan following.
Aug 21–27 BWF World Badminton Championships are to be held in Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland
Aug 25 - Sep 3 AIBA World Boxing Championships (men) to be hosted by Hamburg, Germany. This is considered the Championships that determine the elite fighters of the world.
Aug 28-Sep 10 Tennis fans have the US Open at Flushing Meadows, New York City, USA to look forward to late August/early September.
Sep 17-24 UCI Road World Cycling Championships will be held in Bergen, Norway this year.
Sep 23-30 Invictus Games, a multi-sport event is to be hosted by Toronto, Canada in 2017.
Sep 23-Oct 1 World Rowing Championships will take to the water in Sarasota U.S.A.in 2017.
Sep 27-Oct 9 World Gymnastics Championships (Artistic) will be held in Montreal Canada in late September/early October 2017.
Sep 30 Grand Final of the Australian Football League will be hosted by Melbourne, Australia 2017.
Oct? The Baseball World Series dates and location have yet to be announced.
Oct 26 - Dec 2 Rugby League World Cup contested for by Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea is one for those living ‘down under’ to keep watch out for.
Nov 7 Major Horse Racing event the Melbourne Cup will be hosted by Victoria, Australia in 2017.
Nov 28-Dec 5 IWF World Weightlifting Championships for both men and women will be held in Anaheim, California, U.S.A.
Dec 1-17 World Handball Championships for women participants will be held in Germany.
Jan 15-28 Australia Open Tennis Tournament 2017 to be held in Melbourne, Australia.
Jan 25-28 For extreme sports enthusiasts the Winter X Games 22 will be held in Aspen, Colorado, USA this year.
Feb 4 American event of the football season Super Bowl is to be hosted by Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S.A in 2018.
Feb 9-25 While not having quite as strong a following as the Summer Olympics Winter Olympics enthusiasts will have the opportunity to watch them held in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Feb 28 - Mar 4 Cycling World Track Championships will take to the track in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands for the 2018 competitions.
March 9-18 Winter Paralympics will be held directly after the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea in 2018, giving disabled participants the opportunity to compete at world class level.
Apr 5-8 The ‘big one’ on the golfing calendar is the Masters, to be played on the Augusta National Golf Club course in Georgia, U.S.A.
April 4-15 The British Commonwealth equivalent of the Olympic Games, the Commonwealth Games will be held on the Gold Coast, Australia in 2018.
Apr 7 The highlight of the British horse racing year, the Grand National will be run on the Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool, England. This is considered the toughest steeplechase race any horse will ever run at over 4 miles long.
May 5 For American horse racing fans the Kentucky Derby will be run in Louisville, Kentucky, U.S.A. in 2018.
May 4-20 IIHF World Ice Hockey Championship, one of the most exciting sports to both play and watch, will be played in Copenhagen, Herning Denmark
May 19 FA Cup final football (soccer) will be the one to watch for fans of world class soccer. Held at Wembley Stadium, London 2018.
May 27-Jun 10 French Open Tennis Tournament will be played in Paris, France.
Jun 14-Jul 15 The football (soccer) FIFA World Cup will be competed for in an as yet undisclosed location in Russia mid 2018.

Jul 7-29 World Class Cycling Competition Tour de France
Jun One of the most arduous of any Auto Racing participant, the 86th 24 Hours of Le Mans will be held at the Circuit de la Sarthe, Le Mans, France
Jun 14–17 Golfing fans will have the US Open to look forward to in June, played at the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, New York
Jul 2+ One of the major world class Tennis events, Wimbledon will start at the beginning of July 2018 in London, England
Jul 7-21 Hockey (Field) World Cup for women players will be held in London, England
Jul 19-22 Big on the British Golfing calendar is the British Open, to be played on the Carnoustie Golf Links, Carnoustie, Angus, Scotland
With such an action packed sporting calendar rife with world class events there is little doubt that fans and other sports enthusiasts worldwide will be spoiled for choice. With most major sporting events being televised and/or readily available for viewing on the internet even if they are unable to attend the actual events they are assured of having their thirst for their particular favorite sport satisfied. Those planning on attending live events should organize tickets at the earliest possible moment to avoid disappointment.
Bearing in mind that this is just a partial list of some of the great sporting events upcoming in the rest of 2017 and the first part of 2018 there are plenty of lesser well-known events that are worthy of marking your calendars for also. Local competitions and national competitions at all levels can be just as exciting to watch as some of the international events. They are also where to take note of up and coming talent that will likely compete at world class levels in the near future.
